No content may be copied, reproduced, modified, redistributed, published, or otherwise used without the prior written permission of the copyright owner.
Federal Copyright Law protects All Design Materials
House plans and design materials are original creative works protected under the U.S. Copyright Act (Title 17, United States Code), just like books, music, films, and software.
Copyright protection includes, but is not limited to:
- 2D Artwork: Floor plans, elevations, layouts, and design sketches
- 3D Renderings: Photorealistic renderings, conceptual models, walkthroughs, and visualizations
- Technical Drawings: CAD files, blueprints, engineering drawings, and construction documents
- Photography: Interior and exterior photographs, completed homes, and design galleries
- Videos: Walkthroughs, promotional videos, 3D tours, and construction footage
- Written Content: Product descriptions, articles, blog posts, specifications, and other written materials
These works may not be copied, modified, reused, published, distributed, or repurposed without express written authorization.
Copying, Redrawing, or Modifying Designs
Redrawing, tracing, scanning, or modifying any copyrighted house plan, image, or video—even with alterations—constitutes copyright infringement. Federal law grants the copyright owner the exclusive right to create derivative works.
Constructing a home from a copyrighted design or photograph without proper authorization may also violate copyright law.
If you wish to use any plan, image, or other protected material, it must be obtained through an authorized purchase or licensing agreement.
Single-Use License
Unless otherwise specified, every house plan and media asset is licensed for one-time use only.
A standard license allows you to:
- Build one home from one purchased plan.
- Use licensed images or media only for the approved project.
To build additional homes or reuse any licensed content, you must obtain one of the following:
- A multi-use or unlimited-use license; or
A re-use or extended license issued by the original designer.

Reproduction & Distribution Restrictions
Unless expressly authorized, the following are prohibited:
- Copying or printing plans beyond the licensed use
- Scanning or uploading plans or files to other websites or platforms
- Posting images or videos on websites, social media, or marketing materials
- Reproducing plans through blueprint shops or copy centers without authorization
- Sharing plans, drawings, images, or videos with builders, developers, contractors, marketers, or other third parties beyond the licensed project
Each plan, image, and video is protected as an individual copyrighted work. Copy centers and print shops may not reproduce protected materials without proof of authorization.
Plan Modifications
Reproducible files, including CAD files and editable PDFs, are available for clients who need to modify a design.
These files are licensed solely for the construction of one home.
Any modified version remains a copyrighted derivative work and may not be reused, resold, published, or distributed outside the scope of the original license.
Structural modifications must be made using properly licensed reproducible files. Non-structural markups or "redlines" are permitted only for construction coordination.
Any modifications made to the original design release the designer from liability and void all expressed or implied warranties.
Photo & Video Usage
All photographs, renderings, and videos receive the same copyright protection as house plans and technical drawings.
Without written permission, these materials may not be:
- Reproduced or republished
- Posted or embedded online
- Edited, altered, or redistributed
- Used in advertising, marketing, or promotional materials
Cropping, editing, or otherwise modifying media does not create new ownership rights and does not extend the scope of your license.
Responsibility for Copyright Infringement
Anyone participating in the unauthorized use of copyrighted materials may be held legally responsible, including:
- Homeowners
- Builders and contractors
- Architects, designers, and engineers
- Developers and real estate professionals
- Drafting firms and subcontractors
- Photographers, videographers, and media professionals
- Blueprint shops, copy centers, and marketing agencies
Violations involving media content (e.g., unauthorized video or photo use) are also subject to DMCA takedown provisions and potential platform bans or legal action.
Penalties for Copyright Infringement
Violations of federal copyright law may result in:
- Recovery of actual damages and lost profits
- Statutory damages of up to $150,000 per infringed work, where permitted by law
- Payment of attorney's fees and court costs
- Injunctions, cease-and-desist orders, and removal of infringing content
Unauthorized use of photographs, videos, or other digital media may also result in DMCA takedown requests, account suspension, platform enforcement actions, and additional legal remedies.

Every design, drawing, photograph, rendering, and video represents significant creative and professional effort.
Please respect these intellectual property rights by using all materials only as permitted under your license.
